So many people see only the GLAMOROUS side of being a fashion blogger, but my fellow bloggers know all the hard work that goes into being any kind of a blogger...beauty, fashion, lifestyle or photography. It's a 24/7 kind of job where you're constantly thinking of ways to improve, pitching ideas to various brands, connecting with other bloggers, and regularly creating unique content...it's an ongoing cycle!!! Just like any job out there this one too takes a lot of determination, consistency, work and creativity. Won't you agree?
I know I've had some tough days because a lot of the times things don't go as planned even though the photos might show otherwise. It isn't always as bright and colorful as you SEE IT! For example, there have been times I've felt very frustrated when what I imagined in my head didn't translate the same way in reality or I've had to say a hundred "NO's" to companies that didn't understand my brand. It's the "behind the scenes" that makes being a fashion blogger so much more than just a pretty picture.
That's why today I wanted to share with you what it's like to be a fashion blogger. From my own experience, of course. It may not be the same for other bloggers.
Being a fashion blogger means you're the creative director, stylist, PR agent, brand ambassador, social media manager, model and everything else in ONE!!! It's even more difficult in the beginning if you have no knowledge, connections or any kind of help. That's how I started my blog, five years ago. I learned everything step by step, day by day! If you're thinking of starting a blog, I hope this post gives you some useful pointers.
One of the most important things you've got to figure out first is your niche. What are you going to blog about? What is a topic that you can talk to your friends about non-stop that gets you passionate every time? What is the one thing everyone comes to you for advice? That is your niche! Mine is fashion! That's why most of my posts are style related...Occasionally I have posts that are about a different topic, like beauty or fitness because I have other interests that I like to share, and it's nice to break it up a little to keep my readers interested and engaged.. Plus, here I've got the freedom to share whatever sparks my heart.💗
From there expect to be at a desk working on your laptop for most of the day. I spend probably more hours than I want to admit on mine...answering e-mails, looking for inspiration, updating all my social media, preparing for an upcoming photo-shoot, checking-off deadlines, staying in the know of upcoming trends and always thinking of what's next.
I know it sounds like a lot, but I've gotten the hang of it. I even take a break in between. I go for a walk outside and once I get back I finish where I left off.
Photo-shoot day is crunch time! It's your time to play and really see your vision come to live, but this only happens if you've prepared beforehand. My photo-shoot days for the longest time have been Sundays.
In the beginning it used to take us up to 2 hours to take photos. Now, it takes us around 20 minutes depending on whether or not I'm shooting one or a couple of looks. Make it FUN and feed off your photographer! With time it will start feeling more natural and your creativity will flow and grow. Look for inspiration from magazines, Instagram, Pinterest, other blogs...you'll find it everywhere. Where do you draw most of your inspiration from?
Once you've got lots of photos to choose from, that's when the work starts all over again. You've got to choose the best ones, edit them ( I use PicsArt), create a theme, have a topic of what you want to write about, sit down and write it, have a set date you want to post it. When it's out in the open for everyone to see, get your marketing on. Start sharing it!
Being a blogger has everything! You've got the creative and business side. Finding a balance to juggle them both at the same time is key. Also, you need at least one person who believes in you...you can share your ups and downs with them. As well as a good photographer who is ready to drive to that planned location, to carry equipment, to pitch in ideas, and to help get the best out of you, one photo at a time.

All the planning, preparation and work you put into your fashion beauty and lifestyle posts really shows! It's something I should try to appreciate more when I'm taking in the beauty of the fashion and beauty photos. You looked amazing in all five of the very artistically done outfit photos from your photoshoots that you included above.

I totally relate with getting frustrated when things don't pan out as planned. I think this is why I just altogether stopped fashion blogging, and focused on documenting my travels.

So interesting to see how much work goes into your blog and photos :) for me my blog is a personal style one so it's really not much more effort. I just take a pic of what I wear each day and then write a little about it, haha. A lot less planning required!

These are all so true! Blogging is a lot of hard work and hours behind the screen that no one sees. I am glad you summed it up nicely here. The best thing about blogging for me has been all the relationships I've built with other creators and with brands.

Shooting content and blogging is definitely a lot of hard work! People don't see the behind the scenes that go into planning out content, editing, etc. They only see the finished product and think it's easy! Great post Radi!

You are spot on, friend! As a lifestyle blogger, I totally agree with you and I don't even have the extra hardships you do as a fashion blogger. People don't realize how much hard work and effort it takes to make a blog run smoothly, they just see the pretty results. It's important to point out all of the hard work that goes in behind the scenes and while it's difficult, it's so worth it! :)
ReplyDeleteMake Life Marvelous
I love strawberries too, they're my favourite fruit next to raspberries =) Absolutely, I love smoothies with berries =)
ReplyDeleteA really interesting post =) A day in life of a fashion blogger sounds pretty interesting and funny.
You write about very important things. Blog is some kind of work. You need time to make or find the pictures, write the text etc A lot of people see only the other side of blogging xx
ReplyDeleteI feel you girl, being a blogger, any kind of blogger is very tough and complex activity, justv as you said a 24/7 job. When it comes to taking photos, when it comes to beauty post and reviews I take them every time I have the occasion. When it comes to fashion post, since I can't take the photos by myself and I need my trusty photographer and beautiful occasions and lanscapes, we usually wait until visiting some place.
ReplyDeleteYour photos are great, capture perfectly the message you want to communicate and share.
Thanks for sharing this because I think a lot of people don't know all that goes behind the scenes of blogging!
ReplyDeletehttps://www.mariannyc.com/june-2020-goals/
Well said, Radi: being a fashion blogger meas to do lots of works in one! And above all, it's a 24/7 job!

DeleteOhhh so sweet. I'm glad you've noticed. I've been trying to learn more and be more creative with my photos.
Yes! It's a lot harder than people think, constantly having to have new ideas, doing all the prep and shooting, editing etc yourself. Some of my posts take hours and hours to create depending on what I'm making. I've had mine nearly three years now x

There really is a lot more that goes into a blog than people think! I spend so much time writing and editing photos that sometimes it's a full day of just that!

ReplyDeleteThat's so true babe! People think blogging is a simple task and many even don't know what blogging is? It is actually such a tiresome task and it takes a lot of time. I have been blogging since 6 years and love it. I have several blogs and now trying to focus on social media as well because these days getting active at social media is truly a necessity.
ReplyDeleteBtw I love all your pics and you have written this article so wonderfully! Lots of love! Have a great day!

Couldn't be more agree with your opinion. Blogging is not easy if we really focus on it, takes 24/7, and we have to keep updated on anything. In the other hand, it's so much fun and I really enjoy doing it ( I enjoy reading yours too! ). You keep improving each day and it's awesome!
